At Pet Essentials New Plymouth our main brand of seeds is “Topflite”.  We have chosen “Topflite” as the majority of the seeds are grown right here in New Zealand. Because of this there is no need for them to be heat treated as is the case for imported seeds.  Heat treating tends to strip all the nutrients out of the seeds and it is a common cause of birds seeming like they are wasting their seed.  Many breeders have noticed a big difference in their birds – laying better and having better skin and feathers.
